Cervical lymphadenopathy, or swollen lymph nodes in the neck, can be caused by a variety of factors, including infections (viral or bacterial), cancers, autoimmune disorders, and other conditions.
Different causes:
Infections:
Viral Infections:
Common colds, flu, tonsillitis, strep throat, and other respiratory infections can trigger cervical lymphadenopathy.
Bacterial Infections:
Strep throat, ear infections, dental infections, and tuberculosis can also cause swollen lymph nodes.
Other Infections:
Cat-scratch disease, mycobacterial infections, and HIV can lead to cervical lymphadenopathy.
Cancers:
Head and Neck Cancer:
the skin, mouth, throat, and other head and neck areas can cause localized cervical lymphadenopathy.
Lymphoma and Leukemia:
These cancers can lead to generalized lymphadenopathy, including in the neck.
Autoimmune Disorders:
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and other autoimmune diseases can cause cervical lymphadenopathy.
Other Conditions:
Medications: Certain medications can cause cervical lymphadenopathy as a side effect.
Granulomatous Diseases: Conditions like sarcoidosis can cause cervical lymphadenopathy.
Miscellaneous: Other conditions, such as Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease, can also cause cervical lymphadenopathy.
