Thoracic Inlet (The gateway to thorax)

আজকে আমরা Thoracic Inlet নিয়ে জানবো।

প্রথমেই জেনে নেই যে Thoracic Inlet কি?

 The upper opening of the thoracic cavity through which structures pass between the neck and thorax.

এখন এর Boundaries টা জেনে নেওয়া যাক :

 Anterior: Upper border of the manubrium sterni

 Posterior: Body of T1 vertebra

 Lateral: 1st rib and its costal cartilage

Thoracic Inlet এর Shape কেমন সেটাও জেনে নেই :

 Kidney-shaped, sloping downwards and forwards.

এখন জেনে নিই যে Thoracic Inlet এর ভিতর দিয়ে কি কি Contents Pass করে :

 Trachea

 Esophagus

 Major vessels:

– Brachiocephalic artery & veins

– Subclavian arteries & veins

 Thoracic duct

 Nerves:

– Vagus nerve

– Phrenic nerve

– Sympathetic trunks

 Apex of lung covered by pleura

 Clinical Importance:

 Thoracic outlet syndrome: Compression of nerves/vessels passing through (though anatomically called thoracic inlet)

 Injury risk to apex of lung (e.g., stab wounds)

 Mnemonic (Boundaries):(সহজে মনে রাখার জন্য)

M – R – T

M = Manubrium (front)

R = Rib 1 (sides)

T = T1 vertebra (back)
