Median Nerve – The “Labourer’s Nerve”
Let’s Learn about Median nerve..
Root Value:
C5, C6, C7, C8, T1 (brachial plexus-এর lateral এবং medial cords থেকে তৈরি হয়)
Course:
Arm:
Brachial artery-এর lateral দিকে নামে
Mid-arm এ crosses to medial side
Cubital Fossa:
Brachial artery-এর medial side এ থাকে
Forearm:
Between flexor digitorum superficialis & flexor digitorum profundus দিয়ে নামে
Enters the wrist through the carpal tunnel.
Hand:
Supplies thenar muscles এবং lateral 3½ fingers-এর sensation.
Motor Supply:
Forearm:
All flexors except:
Flexor carpi ulnaris (ulnar nerve)
Medial half of FDP (ulnar nerve)
Hand:
Thenar muscles (LOAF):
Lumbricals (lateral 2)
Opponens pollicis
Abductor pollicis brevis
Flexor pollicis brevis
Sensory Supply:
Palmar surface: lateral 3½ fingers + lateral palm
Dorsal surface: fingertips of lateral 3½ fingers
Clinical Importance:
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
Compression under flexor retinaculum → tingling, numbness in lateral 3½ fingers, weakness of thenar muscles
Pronator Syndrome:
Compression in forearm
Lesion at elbow (Supracondylar fracture):
Hand of Benediction on making a fist
Median nerve = Main nerve for forearm flexors + thenar muscles + lateral palm sensation.
