LD₅₀ (Lethal Dose 50%) হলো এমন একটি ডোজ, যা দিলে পরীক্ষামূলক প্রাণীর ৫০% মারা যায়।
যেমন, যদি কোনো বিষাক্ত পদার্থের LD₅₀ = 250 mg/kg (rats), তার মানে এই ডোজে ৫০% ইঁদুর মারা যাবে।
অন্যদিকে, Lethal dose বলতে সাধারণভাবে বোঝায় এমন ডোজ যা দিলে প্রায় সবাই মারা যেতে পারে — মানে সেটা LD₉₀, LD₉₉ বা Maximum tolerated dose-এর কাছাকাছি হতে পারে।
